Labeling self-custody positions so evening checks stay short
How we name watchlist lines so a rainy-window glance still tells you what you hold — without opening every wallet app.
A watchlist fails when every line needs a footnote. Self-custody already spreads balances across devices; the desktop terminal should compress that into names you trust at a glance.
Prefer location + role over ticker noise
“Hardware A — long cold BTC” beats a string of tickers alone. When you later draft a planned rebalance, you will thank yourself for knowing which device must be present.
Separate shared and solo
If a multisig sits beside a personal ledger, mark the shared line with the other signer’s initials. Timing notes belong in the planned-action field, not buried in the label.
Retire duplicate names
Two labels for the same coins create false drift. During a holdings review we often spend the first ten minutes merging names on paper before touching the terminal.
Leave room for silence
Not every position needs a planned rebalance note. An empty action field is a decision: leave alone until a real constraint appears.
